Todays episode is going to be about the 3 vital components you must HAVE when spending any kind of money on marketing. There’s your Market, your Message, and theres your media. Think of this as a 3 legged bar stool. You must have all of these working together to keep you up..meaning you must have all 3 to make your marketing profitable.

Today, I’m going to focus on talking about the market. Anytime you think about spending a penny on marketing, you have to think about your market first. WHO are you trying to attract? Who are you trying to get into your bar?    When you run a promotion you need to think, who is the best type of person who WANTS to come in for this promotion.

Let me give you a few examples.  In the last video I told you the difference about mass media marketing and target marketing. Target marketing for bar restaurant owners is at a max a 5 mile radius from your business, but do you honestly think everyone in that 5 mile radius will come to your bar? Do you think they all are the perfect prospect to market to? NO!!

Every bar attracts a certain crowd. Every promotion attracts a certain crowd. And Certain food specials attract a certain crowd. So what does this mean?  We know we need to stick to no more than a 5 mile radius, or even a one mile radius depending on where you live, but now we need to pin point who is the best prospect to go after.

Lets say you are starting a ladies night or you want more women in your bar. Who do you think is going to be the best prospect to go after? WOMEN RIGHT! So if you’re trying to attract women does it make sense to spend money marketing to men?

Here’s the next question, what age range of women are you trying to attract? If you are trying to attract women for a late night promotion from 10-2am what age range of women are more likely to come in?

Are you starting to see where I’m going with this?

Let’s say you want to pick up your nights or days for football or basketball. Which type of person do you think is the best person to go after? About 98-99 percent will be males right? So does it makes sense at all to spend money marketing to women to get them in for sports games and beers?

I’m not trying to be sexiest at all but your going to get a better return on your money marketing ONLY to men rather then to both for this promotion or special.

So here’s the big idea. No matter, what you must always think about the WHO, the market you are trying to attract. When you already have your promotion planned out, who is going to be the best person to target.

I know you are thinking right now, well how do I target these exact types of people?  I can’t get into that until I tell you about message and media. In order for your marketing to be profitable you must first understand these 3 vital components and once you understand them, that’s when I will get into how to put all this into action.
