Hello and welcome to Bar Owner TV. March Madness is here and it’s a perfect time to boost your sales and profits with fun promotions and specials. The promotion that I’m currently running at my bar is anytime someone comes in to watch a game during March Madness they have a chance to win a 51 in flat screen TV.
The way that it works is every time they come in during the tournament and buy a meal, they will get a ticket. The drawing for the TV will be during the final game. If the customer brings back all their previous tickets they received, we give them 3 extra tickets to increase their chances to win.
So the whole idea here is to get people in the door during the entire tournament which increases their odds over the people who just come in for the final drawing.
There are plenty of other ways to drive in traffic with food and drink specials during the tournament, but what I want to ask you and discuss is how are you going to get the word out to drive customers in your doors, in the most cost effective way, for your promotions and specials? How are you going to spend money to pack your bar and see a positive return over a negative return?
What most owners do is look to the radio or newspaper and blast out their specials to the masses. Or they put up a Facebook post mentioning their specials. This marketing plan won’t get you the results you want, I can guarantee you that.
Here’s exactly what I did for my promotion. I used Facebook ads and targeted men from 21-55, who lived in my zip code, who had a interest in March madness, basketball, University of Illinois, and about 5 other top NCAA teams.
You can’t get this targeted with any other media then Facebook pay per click ads, and isn’t that what marketing is about? Getting your message and offer across to the people who are most likely to want, what you have to offer?
This is strategic marketing! This is how you see amazing results from your marketing dollars. Anytime you come up with a promotion or special you need to think of what is the best way to target your perfect audience and what kind of offer or special is going to get them in your doors and then put it all into action.
