Competition is fierce in the bar restaurant business which is why if you’re falling short to the competition by NOT delivering value and great experience, you could be in for a rude awaking. Today I’m going to share with you a sports bar strategy that is guaranteed to bring a “cool” factor to your bar, one that makes sports fans want to come to your bar over any other, even if your competition is cheaper in price.
The Best Sports Bar Strategy
Ever To Win Over Customers
If you’re a big fan of sports, I don’t care what team or what type of sport you like, you want to hear the sound, right? Have you ever been on vacation sitting at a bar, watching your team, but you can’t hear the sound? Instead you hear the home team of where you’re visiting?
It’s annoying isn’t it? Tell me this, what if you had the chance to offer every single one of your customers the chance to hear their favorite team, every single time they played, not matter what other teams where playing? Would that excite them? Would they see value in that?
Of course they would and if your bar was one of the only ones that offered this type of benefit, where do you think they’ll choose to go over anywhere else? Your bar because they WANT to hear the sound!
The Best Sports Bar Invention EVER!
Just a few months ago I installed Audio Everywhere in one of my bars, right after football season had started. Audio Everywhere is a product that allows your customers to listen to any game you’re showing on your TV’s from their smart phones and headset.
Before we had those speaker boxes that played the sound out loud which had caused issues in the past with other tables who were watching the game we had on sound. If you’re going out to watch your favorite team, you want to hear the sound, not 2 different games interfering at one time. This reminds me of every time I’m in the car listening to a podcast or music and my daughter and son have their iPads out playing video games and watching Cartoons out loud!
How This Works
The set up was pretty simple. My audio and video installer came out, looked at the receiver we received from Audio Everywhere and had it hooked up within 30 minutes to the 8 different satellites we have.
Audio Everywhere gave us some smaller signage to put on each TV that we put a number on to display that they could get sound on their phone and which station to use. Here’s a picture here.
In order for customers to connect, they just download the Audio Everywhere app to their smart phone, at no charge to them. Super simple. Then they just pick what station they want to listen to and there’s no delay in sound what so ever. That was one of my biggest concerns but it’s spot on with every play.
How I Got The Word
Out To Sports Fans
First thing I did is what I always do. Start telling my existing customers. I sent out an e-mail to my list of customers first and I made sure every server or bartender told our customers. I said if you see someone in a jersey that isn’t Chicago Bears (my bars are in the Chicagoland area), that should be the trigger that goes off in your head to talk about our new feature.
I also ran Facebook ads targeting men within a 3 mile radius of my bar who “Liked” the Packers, Lions, Vikings, and a few other teams that are popular in my area. My ad started off saying
“Hate going to the bar to watch your #1 team but can’t hear the sound? It’s annoying isn’t it?
As a little copywriting 101, the more you hit people’s emotions with your marketing message, the better your offers will convert, especially when you bring up a problem or challenge they may be facing and that you have a solution to fix it!
The rest of the ad just stated we had installed a new feature that they could hear any game at anytime that they wanted at no additional cost.
The Response From Customers
We got a lot of great feedback from our customers saying this was “Brilliant.” At this time we are the only bar in our area right now that has this and customers are coming exclusively because of this.
What I see is customers who are sitting at the tables with friends who are watching the games have one ear phone in and the other one out so they can still BS with their friends. This way they get the best of both worlds.
To stay ahead of the competition, you have to stay ahead of today’s technology and new software like this that delivers a better experience for your customers. If you don’t, your competition will. Don’t think of spending money on new features like this as a cost, it’s an investment into your business, into your loyal customers, and into potential new loyal sports fans.
Think about what one person spends at your bar during football season, March Madness, or whenever. Then think about what a group spends. You’re going to make your investment back in just a few months and gain new loyal sports fans who visit more frequently.
Additional Benefits To You
Audio Everywhere also gives you advertising opportunities to display your special offers when they log into Audio Everywhere on their phone plus a few other in app marketing features. These are perfect ways to work with another local business or businesses who will pay to put their ads there and PAY FOR YOUR SYSTEM.
Conclusion
If you’re looking to attract more sports fans to your bar, you need to be able to deliver something that the competition isn’t doing. This is very new software and right now is the time to start implementing it because within the next 5 years or so, you’ll see everyone following suit. Might as well take advantage now, stand out from everyone else, and start winning over new loyal sports fans.
